Autumn Colour at Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mt Tomah
Being a cool climate Garden, the change of season is always stunning at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden. In autumn, the Garden is ablaze with colour including Japanese Maples, North American Oaks and Dawn Redwoods…grab your camera and come and see them for yourself. We will also be selling Garden grown Red Maples throughout April. The Garden is open from 9am-5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am-5.30pm Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays. The March meeting will feature a presentation from Liz McKervey, Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse at the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Centre. Her presentation will cover ‘What is the role of a Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse?’. All meetings are available to males and their partners who are seeking information on this cancer, and who live in the Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Penrith areas. The Dharug and Lower Hawkesbury Historical Society Annual General Meeting
The AGM will be followed by an afternoon with special guest speaker, Gil Jones CONSPIRACY of SILENCE:- The story of John Henry Fleming, leader of the Myall Creek Massacre.
The AGM is to take place at the Chapel at 11.45am before adjourning for lunch. All members are encouraged to attend. An invitation extends to the general public to join for lunch. After lunch the Dharug and Lower Hawkesbury Historical Society are delighted to welcome guest speaker Gil Jones, a geologist and historian, who has lived in the Macdonald Valley for over 30 years. Listen to Gil speak about the last chapter of his most recent book, “Bulga Bala Boree” which explores how the leader of the Myall Creek Massacre could return to a normal existence in the Hawkesbury area and lead a full life with no repercussions, while there was a fifty-pound reward offered for his capture. Gil will talk of the Conspiracy of Silence that allowed John Henry Fleming to continue his life without ever facing a judge and jury. “Wasteland Wilderness Wonderland” an exploration of Sydney’s sandstone country and “Bulga Bala Boree” an exploration of Darkinyung country and culture, pastoral invasion and dispossession are Gil’s two books that will be on available for purchase on the day. Cost: Free for Members. Non-Members $20. All welcome.
